169 | What is "Allostatic Load" and Why Should I Care

Definition – The cumulative adverse effect on the body when allostasis occurs too frequently (as the body is subjected to repeated stressors).  In other words, when we are in fight or flight and there is no actual saber-toothed tiger to be found.

We know it as the common, every day modern life made more acute by a pandemic.

So, if you are feeling tired, beat up, unfocused and generally like crap, there is a reason.  The good news, you can do something about it.

"Never underestimate the value of a good cry.” – Mark J. Silverman

Today on Mastering Midlife:

●      We need to be kind to ourselves, no matter how cool we are, we are under stress.

●      Stress, without something to fight, run from or hide from, turns on our bodies.

●      You know it… constant media input (news, twitter, social media) ain’t good for us.

●      If your mind is going crazy, write a gratitude list.

●      If you are plagued with too much emotional energy in your body, move till you are exhausted.
