046 | How Well Do You Fail?

Today on The Rising Leader:

● Christopher Troy and the art of resiliency

● Beth Perlman on losing gracefully and not taking failures personally

● My usual reactions to failure and getting my ideas shot down

● Steve Chandler and Seth Godin on treating life as an experiment

● Cheering others on when you’re beaten down

You do your best pitching—but you lose a sale. You attempt to communicate your ideas well—but you get shot down in the boardroom. How do you react when you fail? Do you sulk, lick your wounds, or get resentful? Try to find excuses? Or do you acknowledge the feeling of disappointment and try to come back better? Handling disappointment and loss can be as challenging as the tasks that caused them, but our resiliency and capacity to bounce back from failures can be built.

In this episode, I discuss failing and failing gracefully. I share the story of Christopher Troy and explore how, when we’re met with failure, cheering for our team’s success can benefit us. I describe how I usually react to my own failures. I also share Beth Perlman’s wisdom on not taking failures personally and the value of treating life as an experiment.

“Everything is in the lab. Nothing is a failure. Everything is just an experiment. We're trying different things.” - Mark J. Silverman
