Izzy Ezagui served as a squad commander in the Israel Defense Forces. He is also the world’s only soldier who lost an arm in combat and was able to return to the battlefield after recovery. He is the author of Disarmed: Unconventional Lessons from the World's Only One-Armed Special Forces Sharpshooter, a memoir detailing the struggles he faced after losing an arm and how he didn’t let it stop him from living his life. In 2011, he was awarded one of Israel’s highest military honors by former President Shimon Peres. Today, he delivers inspirational talks, raises money for charities and hospitals, and works with educational institutions.
“You always have the choice to be good and be heroic in your own life.” - Izzy Ezagui
Izzy joins me today to describe the struggles he faced after being disarmed and what he did to keep himself afloat. He shares the day he lost his arm, the thoughts he had while in recovery, and what made him want to keep fighting. He explains why he doesn’t consider himself as a superhero and discusses some of the contents of his book and what inspired him to write it. He also explains why being kind to yourself in the face of adversity is critical to overcome them.
